Referred to as an “American Troubadour” in the March 2012 PBS documentary about the his life and music, Don McLean is an American folk/rock signer/songwriter. McLean has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A protégé of Pete Seeger, Mclean is best know for his song “American Pie”, featured on the album of the same name. Released on October 24, 1971, American Pie was Don McLean’s second studio album. American Pie reached the number one spot on the Billboard Charts within two weeks of its release. The album was certified gold six months later and remained number one on the Billboard Album Charts for nearly a year. The album was dedicated to one of McLean’s childhood heroes, Buddy Holly. The title track of the album, which remembers the February 3, 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (J. P. Richardson) as “The Day the Music Died”, has been called a cultural phenomenon and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. “American Pie” was ranked number five by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts in a pool that they conducted to determine the 365 best songs of the century.

The product measures 12 7/8 inches x 12 7/8 inches x 3/4 inch and weights approximately 3 lbs.

The item shown in the photograph is the actual album cover that you will receive. This is a vintage product and both the album cover and the record have signs of wear. This product is sold as a decorative collectible and not as a playable record album. As such there is no assurance that the vinyl record itself is in a condition that would allow you to enjoy the music if you played it.
